Take card payments with Stripe

Connect your own Stripe account so your shop can take orders, and know when real money moves.

Steps

  1. Open More › Site settings › Shop, and choose Payments in the Show list.

  2. Pick your country in Where is your business based?. Stripe cannot change it later.

  3. Press Connect Stripe. Stripe’s set-up opens in a new tab: give it your business and bank details there. Have your phone to hand for a code.

  4. Back in Payments, the account says “Setup not finished at Stripe” until Stripe has checked everything. Once it says “Ready — can take payments”, press Publish site so your pages show Add to cart.

  5. If Stripe ever pauses payments, press Fix it at Stripe beside the account and give Stripe what it asks for.

What “Not taking orders yet” means

Your shop has products for sale, but no Stripe account is ready to take the money: none is connected yet, or Stripe is still checking your details. Shoppers see your products with “Not available to buy online yet” where Add to cart would be, so no one can pay.

Does real money move?

Yes. Once your Stripe account is ready, every order on your published site is a real card payment. It is paid straight into your own Stripe account, never through AiWebGen, and Stripe pays it out to your bank.

There is no pretend-order mode yet. To see checkout for yourself, buy something cheap from your own shop and refund it. Stripe may keep its small fee.

Refunds

Refund a buyer in your Stripe account: find the payment there and refund all or part of it. The order in Shop › Orders then shows what was refunded.

A refund does not put stock back by itself. When the item comes back, press “Put back in stock” on the order.

Or ask the Assistant: “Is my shop ready to take real orders yet?”

Tip: Until Stripe says the account is ready, your products show “Not available to buy online yet”, so nobody can be charged.
